Welcome to the Success pages of South West Ferret Rescue.
Well this fellow came to us with mutley, he was born June 07 and has just been neutered. Has so far shown not the slightest tendancy to bite, all he wants to do is play. I think he was bred to be absolutely useless, unless it,s digging up the garden or racing you to the back door (got that trick from Mutley). Now re-homed inHelston with Mutley. |
This is a sad tale, poor Mutley has had three attempts at finding an owner. First time he came to us as the owner could not keep him, then we rehomed him but after about 6 weeks he escaped and the owner showed no interest in getting him back so we rehomed him again but this time the owners parted company and neither could keep him so he again came back to us. He is a lovely boy and just loves coming into the house to play. |
Missie was given to us when her owner could no longer keep her. They had her for many years and asked us to keep her until she passed over the rainbow bridge. In the unfortunate way of the world a rescue is never the best place for any animal and we feel that if the right home came along Missie could be given over as she is so sweet and really does need a lot more attention, cuddles and play times than we can give her. About 5 years old. Went to live as a house ferret in Pensilva. |
Nobby was one of the most relaxed kits of the five that arrived. He climbed up on my lap and just stayed there for about 45 minutes while all the others were wrecking the pen. He had both his lower canines digging into his top lip and needed some serious dental work to correct the problem. Still occasionally gets an Abscess due to the teeth problems but otherwise is super. Born March 2003. Now moved to North Cornwall with a lady freind. |

Thor came to us as a very laid back hob and other than getting whiter has shown no change at all. This was good as he had no bad traits and was happy to play with other fuzzies or all on his own. His party piece was squatting in the entrance to his pen, eyes shut, happily dozing in the sun. |
On the left is Slush who has gone to a new home with Barney. They are about the same age so are getting on well. Slush came to us with Milo an albino who was older than him so we split them and now Milo is with Missie as they also are the same age. |

Parkes has gone to another local home and is happy with his new friends. |

This is Mr. destruction himself otherwise known as Max or That ***** ferret. He is just a bundle of mischief but is also the most responsive ferret we have ever met. Very good on a harness and will come when called. At one time we were even getting him to go back into his cage by saying "inside", of course this may have been because of the ferretone rewards but I like to think he is just a super ferret. Gets on with every ferret he has so far met, mind you he is a big boy so maybe the other ferrets were sensible. He has gone to a home not far from us and he is happy with his new friend. |
Mutley has only been with us a short time, gave a couple of nips the first day but nothing since, He is a quiet ferret about 4-5 months old so not yet neutered, still got his "puppy" fur but as you can see he is in super condition and responding well to his new surroundings. |

Haley just before she went to her new home " I'll come out when you stop shouting" actually when you get the ferretone out is more like it. She went to join Toffee, Blaze, Zelah and Patrick so we know she is going to be happy.

This is one of three ferrets who went to Newquay Zoo where they were put into a really wonderful cage with lots of hiding places and plenty of fir branches to climb around on. We hope to feature the enclosure on our information page at a later date.

Another of the ferret's who went to Newquay Zoo to be part of the children's attractions. She was housed in a large enclosure with lots of climbing areas and a large indoor play, come sleeping area. The floor was covered in bark Chipping's and had a slight slope so that every day it could be hosed down easily.

This is Echo who came here mainly due to her not getting on with the other ferret's where she lived. She is a very loving girl and enjoys cuddling into your lap. One of our previous owners, who has four already, came and took one look then wanted her. Echo is totally at home and when she wants her owner to see or get something she will come over and pull at her ankles, or fingers if allowed, and she will lead to whatever it is she is after.
Talk about falling on your feet.

Samways was one of three ferrets that went to train students at the "Animal Care "course at our local agricultural college. They spent a lot of time building the pen for them and now its finished and occupied it really is superb. |
Tom came to us with his brother, yes you guessed it, Jerry, and were both re-homed together. Both were very nervous but in very good health and condition.
Jerry himself, as you can see there is almost no way of telling them apart. We could tell because Jerry was more laid back than Tom. |
The College Drop-out.
I am called Amazon because I could stand up to my brothers Dracula and Cuddles. I was at the local college to help teach animal welfare. My pals T2 and Samways are there but I got very nervous with all the students so it was decided to give me back to SWFR. |

Mimsie with some of her friends. She was a long term resident along with Whizz another jill. Both were re-homed to-gether as they had become very attached to each other. Mimsie passed over the rainbow bridge recently but her last year was a very happy one for her. Both of them were given far more attention and playtime than it would have been possible for me to give them, in fact I had never seen Mimsie so happy as she was at her new home.

Echo getting fed up with the conversation with her friend and preparing to do a dive off the chair back.

One of the College kids called T2, "Terminator 2" by me as he was the biggest ferret I have ever seen, but unlike his namesake also the gentlest. Susan agreed with the name but only because he was a dead copy of Teddy except for the size, hence "Teddy 2".
T2 again getting annoyed with the door. This was taken in their pen at the local college and is not an indication of bad temper just stupidity. The door is the only thing that he is willing to attack, mainly because it does not retaliate.

Echo putting equal strain on all parts of the body. She had a bad start to life in that she was shut up all day in a small cage until we came along and decided we would keep her ourselves. However shortly after this our friend who had Mimsie and Whizz saw her and decided that Echo was for her so that was it we lost Echo to a very good home and we visit her and her pals often.

Coke, Snowball and Cream, all siblings, and were re homed as a family group. Their humans came to look at a ferret as the son wanted one but the parents were not keen at all. However when they left us after a couple of hours they were going to build a pen for their three ferrets. It is always a good feeling when an obvious negative attitude can be totally turned around.

Comet and Fagan preparing the seed tray for planting, or should that be emptying.

Popsie and Patsie getting there first taste of snow. Both sisters but Patsie had to spend two weeks at the vet's and on her return Popsie just could not tolerate being near her. Both were re homed to separate homes.

Toffee all stressed out (or is that stretched out) in the loving arms of her new owner .This is another ferret that knows just how to manipulate the humans she looks after.
Frodo being a typical ferret doing what they do best, nothing. He has been castrated and has now lost most of the smell and some of the colour. His nature is unchanged and he dosen't hold any grudges. He appears to be about 3 years old but that is only based on his teeth and condition when received. |

Caster and Pollux checking that they havn't left any plants or bulbs behind. They were nothing if not thorough. |
Clyde is an adorable albino ferret with perfect nature. He was re-homed along with Frodo and they now live near Portreath. This is Clyde waiting for his turn to try and capture some ferretone. |

Socks was found with his brother abandoned in a wood near Falmouth. There was a taped up cardboard box nearby with some air holes and evidence that something had chewed its way out. Both he and his brother Thor have been painted with red dye but are only about 6-7 months old. It is unlikely that they had been used for hunting due to their age, but I cannot think why they were dyed as they are. |
This is Thor waiting to greet you. |

Sally is an adorable jill, she has been spayed and loves human toy's though no so keen on other fuzzies. She is happy to follow you around and so far has shown no bad traits at all. Of unknown age but we think about 2 years old . |
Bonnie we are hoping to re home with Titch who is featured below. Here she is after successfully running down and capturing a bottle of ferretone. |
![]() |
![]() |
Titch is one of five kits who arrived last summer, she will be re homed with Bonnie hopefully. At the moment both jills are feeling the spring urges but should settle down when they realize that the hormones are not a big issue in neutered animals. |
Bodger joined us from a broken home near-by. He is very laid back although he was only vasecomised not castrated when he came here. He was castrated and re-homed within a very short time. He is a Sandy with black eyes and very prominent markings around the legs and eyes. |

Snags was the other ferret, along with Nobby, still in our care with teeth problems. He had one tooth outside his mouth but the other was digging into his top lip just like his brother. He had some dental work done and we hope this has resolved the problem. Rehomed with his brother Nobby. |
