Welcome to the gallery pages of South West Ferret Rescue.
Here we hope to show ferrets that it has been our privilege to have known or are still with us.
This is Charlie a super little Jill, living with Nobby and Snags at present but tends to be a bit of a loner. Not sure how old she is but definitely under a year. At present Haley's owner is trying to get them to-gether as Haley will not get on with the others in her group.
Little G.G. who was found in a plastic rubbish sack on the Glinis Estate in Cornwall. In a very poor state when she arrived but her nature was superb and you can tell she will be a super ferret once all her fur grows back. Because of this she was called "Glamorous Glynis" or GG for short. Her skin was very scabby and rough and during her spay an exploratory operation was carried out and found that one of her adrenal glands was swollen and was removed. After about 3 days her skin started to clear and soften. She has been returned to us as her friend could not take to her, she is getting better but there is an underlying problem with her skin.
This is Haley as she arrived, she has now been spayed and I will put another picture up when she has grown into her good coat. At present she is doing the Hokey Kokey but we will try and teach her a better dance. Very friendly and the only times she uses her teeth is to grip your finger and pull you into her box where she will then lick your fingers.
Here is Haley showing off her new "salt and pepper" colouring. It is always a surprise to see how much better their coats are when they are neutered, both texture and colouring.
Max was brought into us when he was found running around the streets of Camborne. So far he has bitten both the person who found him and the one who brought him in. He has shown signs of bitting me but as you can see he is just wanting attention and loves to be picked up. He is has been neutered and at present spends his free time in the garden winding up the other ferrets. In this shot he is at the court door.
Casper arrived here in early January, good condition but very nervous. He has settled down now and is quite happy exploring the garden. He will run over and follow when you call him. Casper has been to the vet's to be neutered so this should make him even better when his hormones realize what has happened.
Tango arrived in very poor condition, absolutely crawling with fleas, her back end very bald and showing signs of urine burns. When we got her home she was de-flead and a good check which showed signs of incontinence or infection as she was permanently dribbling and this has caused all the burns and hair loss. Tango has had her second lot of treatment, to try and help the incontinence problem which was at first thought to be muscle related. However after the treatment failed we had her "Spayed" and a check inside confirmed that it is a faulty bladder and inoperable. Twice a day we have to apply Vaseline to her back end to prevent any more burning. She is absolutely devoted and will follow me around as I clean out the pens. One problem that we are unsure of is her inability to climb down, she can climb up okay but just can't do down, even a few inches is beyond her and we have to go and lift her down. Not a serious problem but it means you have to be aware of what she is doing at all times when she is out of her cage. Below are a few pictures of her progress from a very poor animal through her imitation lion stage as she gets her pure albino coat.
This was as received the urine leaking had caused some very bad burning as can be seen in this picture.
This taken the same day, showing off the dirty ginger colour.
After spaying and a bit of care she is starting to change into a pure albino. Showing of her front trousers
In her full "lions" outfit. The Albino is coming to the fore in this shot.
Almost a complete transformation into an Albino.
Playing "Peek-A-Boo" over the garden fence
Topsie is another permanent member of our family. When picked up by the RSPCA there was very little of her just skin and bones. We don't know the history or who her previous owner was but it took over nine months until she would let me pick her up. As you can see she is now an almost normal (is any ferret normal?) ferret but is still afraid of strangers. Still a bit intolerant of other ferrets but even that is improving.
Dracula playing cowboys " Take one more step hombre and I give you both eyes ". Always assuming that he can summon up enough energy. One of five siblings, his brothers are Cuddles and Blaze and his sisters are Zelah and Amazon. Called Dracula for his penchant to go for the Jugular via the nearest bit of skin, he now has settled down to be your typical laid back ferret.
Topsie deciding that she prefers the Pent House rather than the share the lower apartment, or perhaps Jules has a headache, who knows a ferrets mind.

This is one of the great ferret toys that are available, it's called the "ferret security cube". The earlier ones were, I must say, better as the flaps over the openings were larger and the fuzzies could get in and they would be completely closed. But as you can see it dosn't bother Jules in the least.

Our cross bred spaniel/poodle Amiee trying to intimidate Mabel who only had one eye so usually just ignored her. Dippy as you can see is doing his own thing and ****! to the dog.
Came to us as a temporary home while the RSPCA sorted out his new owner, We called him Noname as we could not think up a name for him hence No Name.
Little Lady who was the long term companion of Brighteyes, now on her own since Brighteyes passed over the rainbow bridge. Was very down for a time but now perking up and getting interested in mischieve.
Amiee trying to get the ferrets to come out to play.
For all those doubters, you can get five ferrets in one hammock. This is Cuddles, Amazon, and Dracula sharing the hammock with Zelah and Blaze when they came back for a visit. They are pretty tired as they had spent the last hour destoying the garden, even so Zelah and Dracula want to have a second go at it ( perhaps they realize they missed some flowers). Amazon is peeping out from under Dracula, Cuddles has his back to us and Blaze is under the lot, his tail can just be seen at the right rear above Amazon's body.

Known as a raiding party this is T2, Bright Eyes and Lady being subjected to the attentions of that 'orrible lot. T2 is on top, Dracula is looking over everyone, Lady is at the right rear with Bright Eyes feet beside her nose, ( bright Eyes own nose can just be seen under T2's throat. Amazon is 'feet up' by Dracula and the tail belongs to cuddles who is under Dracula.

Only Dracula and Amazon remain to find a home for, Drac's has turned into such a character that it will be a wrench to see him go. I am as you can guess in no hurry to find him a home.

Some of the kits, who were about 7 weeks when they arrived but as can be seen they have now decided that they can relax and enjoy life, or is that sleep.

Dracula trying to decide if he wants to get his little pawsies cold.

Cuddles the first, rehomed many years ago now.

Cuddles MKII doing what he did best, finding the food. Did not have a very good first home but was returned to us by the RSPCA and re-homed to his brother Blaze and sister Zelah and now a very happy boy.

Thor, showing his intelligence " I know he's around here somewhere I can see the tracks "

Amazon showing Dracula how to treat snow. They do seem to enjoy " ploughing" the snow, one or two tend to be wary at first but they all seem to enjoy it in the end.
